A house within the city
The historic centre on foot
Every walk begins in the neighbourhood: the Palais des Papes, lively squares, old streets, restaurants and riverside walks are reached naturally, without a car.
From La Banasterie, the city's great sights are not excursions to plan. They become part of the rhythm of the stay, around a corner, across a square or along an evening walk.
Our neighbourhood
One of the old aristocratic quarters of the city, lined with fine seventeenth- and eighteenth-century townhouses, connecting the centre with the banks of the Rhone.
Heritage
The monumental silhouette of the Palais des Papes is part of the immediate neighbourhood, reached in the morning or evening through Rue Peyrolerie.
Restaurants
Just a few steps from the house, Place des Chataignes offers terraces and restaurants for coffee, lunch or dinner in the atmosphere of a living local square.
Culture and local life
La Manutention naturally extends the stay towards museums, cultural venues and the quieter paths of the district, without needing a car or a change of pace.
Walk
Jardin des Doms rises above the Rhone, the rooftops, Pont Saint-Benezet and the Barthelasse, opening views towards Mont Ventoux, the Luberon and the Alpilles.
Old streets
Around La Banasterie, the streets keep a human scale. Stone, shade, narrow passages and facade details form a first discovery before reaching the great monuments.
This closeness gives the stay its character: Avignon is not a backdrop, but a city experienced several times a day.
Squares and terraces
Restaurants, terraces, markets, shows and Festival events all sit within a natural radius of the house. You can go out, change plans, come back to rest, then step out again.
Veronique and Fabrice are happy to share restaurants, walks and timings that help guests enjoy Avignon with more ease, according to the season.
Towards the Rhone
From Jardin des Doms or the river shuttle to the Barthelasse, Avignon opens onto the Rhone, the ramparts and the greener landscapes of the opposite bank.
This alternation is part of the charm: the mineral intensity of the historic centre, wide views over the city, then a return to an old and peaceful house.
Stay in the centre
La Banasterie brings together proximity to the monuments, the life of the squares and the calm of a characterful guest house: a simple and sensitive way to discover Avignon on foot.
